About Dalang
What is DALANG?
DALANG is an experimental industrial design education platform shaped by design aesthetics, international exchange, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and real industry challenges. It is not a content-driven education program, but a practice-based platform rooted in real industrial systems.
Built on more than four years of hands-on workshop experience in China and Germany, DALANG is grounded in real industrial settings. We bring students into factories, workshops, and material labs—not to observe, but to take part in real briefs, real design processes, and real production environments.
Here, design isn’t just talked about or displayed. It’s tested, challenged, and shaped by reality.
What are we doing?
We bring design back to where it truly belongs: inside real industrial systems—while opening it up to international cultural exchange.
Working across different themes, we collaborate with factories, companies, and experienced mentors through short, intensive workshops lasting one to two weeks. During this time, students design under real conditions: materials, processes, structures, and manufacturing constraints.
We believe that only by making mistakes in real environments can design ideas truly take shape. While these workshops don’t cover the entire product lifecycle, they open a clear window into what the real world of design actually looks like.
If You’re Thinking About Joining or Collaborating:
If you’re a student, about to graduate, or just starting your design career, you might be looking for a practice experience that feels genuinely different—something more than a typical international workshop.
If you’re from a school, company, or workshop, you may be interested in a way of collaborating that feels younger, more experimental, and more internationally connected.
DALANG isn’t in a hurry to grow fast. What matters to us is getting things right.
If these ideas resonate with you, we’d love to hear from you.
